If that is the case your design is\nunbalanced. Sometimes that unbalance is an intentional thing and it can look\ngood, although most of the time if the design is unbalanced in one direction it\nis balanced in a different direction. \u003cp\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\u003c\/inline\u003e\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align:justify\"\u003e\u003cspan lang=\"EN-US\"\u003e\u003cinline style=\"font-size: 18px;\"\u003eI would suggest that if you are just starting\nto face paint you work on creating balanced designs. If you work with symmetry\nit will be easy to create balanced designs. The easiest starting point is to\nsimply divide the face in 4 quarters using the nose bridge as the center for\nthem. For the face painting design to be balanced make sure that the design is\nequally distributed in between all 4 quarters.\u003cp\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\u003c\/inline\u003e\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align:justify\"\u003e\u003cspan lang=\"EN-US\"\u003e\u003cinline style=\"font-size: 18px;\"\u003eOnce you are capable of creating balanced\ndesigns you can work on creating some imbalance or asymmetry. For example, you\ncan create designs that are balanced when divided vertically in half right\nthrough the center, but unbalanced when dividing them through the center\nhorizontally. A clear example for that is the typical butterfly face painting\ndesign.\u003cp\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\u003c\/inline\u003e\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align:justify\"\u003e\u003cspan lang=\"EN-US\"\u003e\u003cinline style=\"font-size: 18px;\"\u003eGet creative and think of different ways to get\nthere. There are no general\nrules as to where a design should be but I can give you some tips to keep in\nmind.\u003cp\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\u003c\/inline\u003e\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align:justify\"\u003e\u003cspan lang=\"EN-US\"\u003e\u003cinline style=\"font-size: 18px;\"\u003eUnless you are going for a full face design I\nwould suggest for you try to keep your design above the cheekbones. Most face\npainting masks, butterfly designs and other designs that concentrate around the\neyes look best when kept above the cheekbones.\u003cp\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\u003c\/inline\u003e\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align:justify\"\u003e\u003cspan lang=\"EN-US\"\u003e\u003cinline style=\"font-size: 18px;\"\u003eTry not covering the entire forehead when face\npainting. A lot of times leaving an empty “V” shape in the middle helps make\nyour design look better, although that is not always true. A rainbow across the\nforehead can look great even though you are not leaving an empty “V” shape.\u003cp\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\u003c\/inline\u003e\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align:justify\"\u003e\u003cspan lang=\"EN-US\"\u003e\u003cinline style=\"font-size: 18px;\"\u003eWrapping your design around the eyes is always\na good choice and you can hardly ever go wrong if you go in that direction.\nMore recently, new trends have come up when painters choose to paint a design\nfocused on the nose (nose art), the eyebrows, eye lids or even the lips (lip\nart). You can get creative and play around with your face painting designs. \u003cp\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\u003c\/inline\u003e\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align:justify\"\u003e\u003cb\u003e\u003ci\u003e\u003cspan lang=\"EN-US\"\u003e\u003cinline style=\"font-size: 18px;\"\u003eColor\u003cp\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\u003c\/inline\u003e\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/i\u003e\u003c\/b\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align:justify\"\u003e\u003cspan lang=\"EN-US\"\u003e\u003cinline style=\"font-size: 18px;\"\u003eA lot can be said about color and it is not the\npurpose of this post to cover every aspect of it, but the most important thing\nto keep in mind when choosing colors for your face painting designs is that the\ncolors must look good together and they should be balanced as well. If your\ndesign is too dark at the top and too light at the bottom it might look\nunbalanced. Colors can be highly contrasting, or blend nicely together in a\ngradient, either way works. But, keep in mind that although Green and Red can\nmake a great Christmas face painting design, when mixed together they make\nbrown, so you need to plan your design for it to work with the colors you\nchose.  Remember that color can also\nchange a design even if the overall shapes and position are the same. This is\ngreat because you can paint the same butterfly face painting design using\ndifferent color combinations and obtain a completely different look.
